On March 27, the Solomon Mikhoels International Cultural Center (SMICC) in cooperation with the Permanent Delegation of the Russian Federation held the event at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris dedicated to the progress of the “Culture beyond borders” project.
The project was launched at UNESCO in January, 2013 and celebrated with a large-scale gala-concert featuring a number of renowned world artists after it received the auspices of the Organization in recognition of its international significance for peacebuilding, dialogue of civilizations and rapprochement of cultures.
One year later the Solomon Mikhoels International Cultural Center presented to UNESCO the results of “Culture beyond borders” project realized in different parts of the world and other creative activities of the Center within the framework of the project.
Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova welcomed the delegation of the Center. During the meeting the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO Eleonora Mitrofanova, founders of the SMICC Mikhail Gluz and Irina Goryunova, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Andrey Khazin, member of the State Duma Committee on CSI Affairs and Ties with Compatriots Andrey Skoch and People’s Artist of Russia Sergey Prisekin exchanged views regarding the activities of the Center, identified further fields of cooperation between UNESCO and the Center for 2014-2015.
The SMICC awarded the Mikhoels Medal to Irina Bokova for her invaluable contribution to the development of the international humanitarian cooperation and promotion of “Culture beyond borders” goals.
Following the discussion the parties signed the Letter of Intent to continue cooperation in 2014-2015. Assistant Director-General for Culture Francesco Bandarin signed the document on behalf of UNESCO. The high international representative noted the successful realization of the project, showed interest in future cooperation, especially in the line of Culture Sector of UNESCO and wished success to the founders of the initiative and their adherents.
After this the reception was organized for the participants of the presentation on behalf of Director-General of UNESCO and Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO. Members of the delegation, F.Bandarin, co-founder of the SMICC, musician and conductor Misha Katz (France), Permanent Representatives to UNESCO and diplomats from countries, where concerts within the framework of “Culture beyond borders” projects were held (France, Germany, Moldavia, Mexico, Italy, Belgium, Israel, Slovakia), as well as diplomats from Brazil and India were among those present at the banquet.
During the reception celebrated French singer Mireille Mathieu was awarded the Five Continents Medal on behalf of Director-General I.Bokova “in recognition of her invaluable assistance in promoting universal values and ideas through the art of music as a vivid symbol of dialogue between cultures and between nations.” The same award received Russian deputy Andrey Skoch “in recognition of his achievements in charity work and promotion of international cultural projects and preservation of cultural heritage.”
