On April, 15, with the participation of the official Russian delegation headed by the President of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Mr S.Naryshkin, events celebrating the 60th anniversary of the accession of the USSR to UNESCO were organized at the Headquarters of UNESCO.

The high-level Russian delegation was received by the Director-General of UNESCO Mr I.Bokova. A highly important exchange of views on topical issues of Russian cooperation with the Organization took place at the meeting.

Likewise, the Vice-chairman of the State Duma Mr V.Vasyliev, the Head of the political fraction of the Communist party G.Zuganov, the presidents of parliamentary committees Mr V.Nikonov, Mr A.Poushkov, Mr. L.Slutsky, the deputy Mr A.Tarnaev, the Head of the Federal Agency of Archives Mr A.Artizov, the Chief of the Office of the State Duma Ms D.Pollyeva, the Vice-Director General of the ITAR-TASS Mr. M.Gusman, the Rector of the Institute (University) of Moscow State International Relations Mr A.Torkunov have taken part in the meeting.

A seminar "60 years with the UNESCO", with  participation of the UNESCO Director-General Ms I.Bokova, the Minister of Culture of Belorussia Mr B.Svetlov, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on International Cultural Cooperation, Mr M.Shvydkoy, the Permanent Delegate of the Russian Federation to UNESCO Ms E.Mitrofanova, the ex-Deputy Director-General of UNESCO for Communication Mr G.Yushkiavicus and the ex-Permanent Representative of Russia to UNESCO Mr E.Sidorov, has been organized for the members of the delegation.

Later on, at the UNESCO Headquarters, Mr S.Naryshkin, Ms I.Bokova, Mr B.Svetlov and the Director General of the ITAR-TASS Mr S.Mikhailov inaugurated a photo exhibition of rare archival documents. Many of the documents, selected and provided by the archives of UNESCO, Ministries of foreign affairs of Russia and Belarus, the information agency Russian ITAR-TASS and the Belorussian telegraphic agency BELTA, illustrate documents and historical events, but also events of summits and high level meetings of Permanent representatives of the USSR, Russia and Belorussia to the Organisation.

The pictures testify of the most significant moments of the history of participation of Russian diplomats and cultural and scientific figures in the multilateral activity of UNESCO. These highly interesting pictures give evidence of different national cultural events such as exhibitions, concerts, conferences, round tables on the platform of UNESCO.

In the evening on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the entry of the USSR to UNESCO, a gala of the National Academic Russian State Choir M.Pyatnitsky (Russia) and the Folk Ensemble "Dudariki " (Belarus) was held in the Great hall of UNESCO.

All UNESCO events within the framework of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the entry of the USSR to UNESCO went with great success and attracted a lot of  attention from the participants and the international public.
