On June, 21st-29th, 2017 the International Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO hold the 29th Session of its Assembly at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Russian delegation with Mr Alexander Frolov, Head of the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia (Roshydromet), at its head, composed of high-level officials from a number of Russian ministries and agencies.
The IOC Member States positively evaluated the input of IOC to the Agenda for Sustainable Development – 2030, in particular, to the realization of SDG 14 dedicated to the ocean; endorsed the proposal for an International Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development to be established for the period 2021-2030, launched the first Global Ocean Science Report.
During the election to the Executive Council of IOC for the period 2017-2019, held at the Assembly, the candidature of the Russian representative, Mr Alexander Postnov, Deputy Director of Research of the State Oceanographic Institute, to the post of the vice-president of the Commission was approved by acclamation.
