Russian painter Sergey Soltan participated in Script and Calligraphy Week at UNESCO
The Permanent Mission of India to UNESCO with an active support of the Permanent Delegation of the Russian Federation and other countries held a thematic week “Akshara - Crafting Indian Scripts”dedicated to linguistic diversity, endangered languages, scripts, calligraphy and their significance for the preservation of the language, culture and religious beliefs that began on September the 16th at the UNESCO Headquarters.
The exhibition featured stone, wood, handloom textiles, embroidery, traditional art and handblock printing among other hand skills while traditional artists demonstrated their skills.
The organizers of the exhibition have paid special attention to the art of calligraphy of other countries, its artistic, spiritual and practical components. A number of Workshops with calligraphers was held through the week.
Masters of calligraphy and experts from several countries of the world were invited in Paris with this purpose to take part in the round table on cultural heritage and calligraphy, to make general lectures about the graphic arts, and traditions of their countries and peoples and to demonstrate their craftsmanship as well as to live chat with an international audience at UNESCO.
Russian history and traditional art in UNESCO was represented by the professor of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the National Institute of Design and the Business and Design Institute Mr. Sergey Soltan.
S.Soltan is a winner and a member of numerous national and international exhibitions and competitions, the winner of the national contest "The Best Design of the Year" (2000), and of the national design competition "Best Teacher of the Year" (2011).
The artist studied calligraphy from the famous Soviet master calligrapher Ivan Krivoruchko.
Today he is a renowned master and enthusiast of careful preservation of the Russian traditions and the history of calligraphic art and actively promotes calligraphy in modern design.
Professor Soltan has formed more than 50 winners of the international student and professional competitions.
The visit of the Russian designer to UNESCO was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the Russian Permanent Delegation to UNESCO.
The Indian organizers expressed particular appreciation to the Russian Federation for the beneficial partnership in the collective effort to promote intercultural dialogue.
